EtchGuard software monitors aperture width vs component pitch and foil thickness. If an aperture does not meet the guidelines of IPC-7525A "Stencil Design Guidelines," it is automatically red flagged by our software. This enables us to evaluate the situation and provide you with alternate solutions before a problem occurs on your surface mount line.
Correct aspect ratio is essential for proper paste transfer-this is the ratio between the size of the aperture and the thickness of the stencil. If the wall area of the aperture exceeds the pad area, surface tension may cause the paste to adhere to the side walls. An incorrect aspect ratio can prevent the paste from releasing properly and cause clogging at stencil lift-off. For optimum paste release, the preferred aspect ratio is greater than 1.5 and greater than .66 for area ratio.
